What's included
| Piece | Why it is here |
|---|---|
RichTextExtension | Lexical's rich text behavior. Every pattern needs it. |
InitialStateExtension | Applies the seeded content immediately, so the server and the client render the same. Leave it out if your editor starts empty. See Seeding initial content. |
EmojiExtension | Registers EmojiNode, the insert command and the emoticon conversion. Remove it and the picker and button stop working. |
registerMarkdownShortcuts(editor, [EMOJI]) | Converts a full shortcode such as  when you type the closing colon. Without it only the picker and emoticons work. |
EmojiPickerPlugin | The : suggestion menu. It sits in the content area wrapper so the menu is positioned against the text. |
InsertEmojiPlugin | A toolbar button that types a : for you, which opens the picker. |
BlockInsert, Toolbar | Containers for the button. See Toolbar. |
Inserting emoji
| Method | How |
|---|---|
| Picker | Type : and a few letters, for example :smi. Up to 8 matches show, searched by name and keywords. Press Enter or Tab to choose. |
| Toolbar | The "Insert emoji" button inserts a : at the cursor, which opens the picker. |
| Shortcode | Type a full name between colons, such as . It converts when you type the closing colon. |
| Emoticon | Text emoticons such as :) convert automatically. Single-character ones that are easy to type by accident, like :D, are skipped. |
Emoji data comes from emojibase-data. The picker leaves out emojibase group 2 (components such as skin tone modifiers), set in EXCLUDED_GROUPS in plugins/emoji-picker-plugin.tsx.
Styling
Emoji nodes get the class editor-emoji (EMOJI_CLASS_NAME). No styles are attached to it, so target it from your own CSS to change size or alignment. The picker uses bg-overlay text-overlay-foreground, and the highlighted row uses bg-accent text-accent-foreground.
